gentle thoughts...

My beautiful woman, each day

Brings another unpainted canvas

For us to explore.

The day passes and we look to a

Renewal of many such vivid sunsets together.

You are my life and we will

Love as One.

Do you remember that dusty farmhouse with its

Openness?

It was there I stole a kiss.

You wore your blue and white-checkered

Dress.

So prim and proper.

We chased the rainbows of that day.

Cried together.  Laughed together.  Sat together.

Counting dewdrops on the grass.

Do you know the Pacific Coast Mountains hold the secret still?

With their cool, mossy cliffs laced with travertine.

Nojoqui Hills with swirling waters where

Thunderous falls cascade and pitch.

Dappled sunlit glades mark a crooked

Path where the wildflowers grow.

Where you and I held hands

And stood in a mist

Of wonder.

Fall.

Nature is nearing the completion of the season.

Of what has been (and will always be),

The delicate rhythm

Of the Ages.

Winter.

It awaits the awakening from spring.

For now

Snowdrifts roll into hilly fields of white.

Beneath the deep-freeze is the spirit of spring

And the beginning.

Spring.

There is green of every shade.

Tenderly prodding the soil aside,

And making the way toward the

Light of Life.

Summer.

It is the joyous blending of sun, growth and color.

Sharpened by the furious pollination of the thousands

Of petals of richly-scented wildflowers

By bees, wasps and butterflies.

The living carpet of green reaches for the

Azure sky.

Once upon a time,

When the moon was full,

And the night was clear.

It was chilly, indeed cold for that

Particular night.

But not inside.

For inside, at home,

Where the heart and hearth truly are,

Two people with feelings for each other

Sat, with knowledgeable looks.

With piercing eyes.

Her spangle was glittery.

It commanded attention in her box

Of earthly treasures that happened to be open.

It caught the shaft of white sunlight that morning,

And sent an array of diamond rainbows radiating

Around the room, sparkling and dazzling to

My eye.  That's precisely what attracted me to it.

And to her.  Her sparkling personality was like

This tumbling and cascading glitter.

I breathe in the fragrance of a

Spring with wonderful thoughts.

They are of you, and in my joy of

That spring day we met, I knew I was

In love with your mind, your soul and

Your heart.

Completely.

All these years have come,

Gone and soon will fade.

To this end I know.

How I've loved you.  How I've whispered

These words over the

Comfort of a crackling fire.

A chance encounter.

The way you moved.  Your glance.

It lingered, it lit, it remained with my own eyes.

They told me so much, your beautiful eyes.

We talked in hushed whispers.

The stories are not forgotten.

We told each other of great things.

Of ponies and kings, and

Of magic castles.

Where Good fought against Evil.

And like your beautiful smile,

Happiness always triumphed in the end.

How I remember so long ago,

When you came into being.

When you found this world.

I held you tightly

Those first few minutes.

And nothing was greater than

The love a father has for his child.

Nothing.

The garden has shared my sorrow.  It is this living earth

Of which you have returned to.  O' beautiful

Love of mine!

Eyes to see, seeing mine.

Hands to hold, holding mine.

My face is upturned to a sky blue

We no longer share.  I grieve for

Your gentle spirit.  And yet, one

Day, I will be whisked into

The Afterlife to join you.

One cannot touch without being touched in return.

The greatest thing, you'll ever learn,

Is not how much you love,

But how much you are loved by others.

Gentlethoughts.com

We are so capable at giving great joy to each other.

Joy at simply being.

When we can live each day

Like the passing days of nature's seasons,

Knowing that we have not hurt anyone

In doing so,

May we truly know happiness then.

Frosty moon, cold night, glittering stars

Dance upon my windowpane, flashing and compelling.

A snowy night so deep, the drifts softly gather in hilly silence.

The home is lit, outside a myriad of twinkling rainbows

Pierce the darkness, sparkling and inviting.

Listen!  Somewhere a carole is playing and

Gently reminding us

That the meaning of this quiet Eve radiates with quiet hope.

This was a poem written as a eulogy for a very special person.  It was read quite passionately by the very distinguished Dr. George Fischbeck (formerly of KABC TV broadcast meteorology.)
